The Taos Hum : Mysterious sound in Taos

Town of Taos
The town of Taos in New Mexico has been home to many famous residents including Julia Roberts, Dennis Hopper, Aldous Huxley. Taos is the country seat of Taos Country. The English name Taos derives from the native Taos language meaning "place of red willows".

However, the town of Taos contain an unusual mystery: a hum of unknown origin, the so-called "Taos Hum".
In 1992, the Hum phenomenon began to be reported in North America following complaints from many citizens living near the town of Taos.

Joe Mullins, a professor emeritus of engineering at the University of New Mexico, conducted research into the Taos Hum. Based on a survey of residents, about 2 percent of the general population was believed to be "hearers," those who claimed to detect the hum and most of them  are ages 55 to 70.

"It's a kind of torture; sometimes, you just want to scream," retiree Katie Jacques of Leeds, England, told the BBC. Leeds is one of several places in Great Britain where the Hum has recently appeared.

"It's worst at night," Jacques said. "It's hard to get off to sleep because I hear this throbbing sound in the background. … You're tossing and turning, and you get more and more agitated about it."

Interestingly, the causes of Hum phenomenon baffled many investigator and has remained a phenomenon for over 40 years and many people believe that it will remain so for many more years to come until man could finally figure out the deep secrets of Nature.
